5Awesome subwoofer with Audioengine A5
By L. Dy
Have them setup with my Audioengine A5's, really fills the missing low end bass. Awesome low end for a decent 2.1 sound with my 6 year old PC inside my room that has solid wood flooring. I did the usual break in, playing music not too loud, etc. After about a couple of weeks it really opened up with the Audioengine speakers, nice.
Saw this inside the store as an open box and decided it's worth trying out since I can always return it after a trial period. Built solid and nice smooth finish, too. After using it for a month I have decided it's a keeper. But YMMV. For the price I paid I'd say it's a good buy.

5S-O-L-I-D
By Alfonso
I've had Pioneer's SW-8 Powered Subwoofer for over a week and it's the final piece for a home theater set up I have consisting of Sony Tower speakers and Polk Center Channel speaker. Pioneer's SW-8 Subwoofer is off the charts. Over the weekend I had a chance to really see how good it is and
DAMN!!!!
It's good.

Setting it up was simple. There's a lil blue light indicating when it's on. There's an auto setting that kicks in when bass is detected, I haven't paid attention to it. It has a separate volume control.
Input options include RCA & the typical wire inputs. There are separate Phase & Frequency controls allowing for you to customized your setup.

The Test
Music: Hip-Hop, Reggae, Pop, AfroPop, Jazz
TV: Sports (Soccer, Basketball, SuperBowl)
Nature shows, A few Sit Coms

The Bass is very clear and as weird as this may sound "crisp". You need to pay attention to the volum level. It can shake the place at low volumes, at least with the Yamaha RX-V861BL Home Theater Receiver that's powering the system. I have a cat and the looks I got from her because of the volume were hysterical, she normally could care less. I bought this at a silly low price by searching for a few weeks and just flat out getting lucky. I look forward to having this current set up for years to come and can only see this subwoofer getting better the more I use it.
I strongly recommend buying this subwoofer. You should be able to get it for around a $100 if not lower (I paid alot less than that amount and yes legally).

I updated this on 2-21-2012 to 5 Stars. Watched Carnaval from Brasil and being able to clearly hear and feel the bass from the songs for hours on end is the reason. The only way I could have been closer is by actually being at the Carnaval event. Incredible THUMP POWA!!!!

3SW-8 has a built in hum
By George Stillwell
Bought this sub (SW-8) over a month ago and returned the first one for having a hum, even when nothing was plugged in to it. The second one had about the same hum and I worked with four different people at Pioneer to see about returning again or getting a small adjustment on the price for a defective product. I was finally advised by a tech support person that the hum was NORMAL on this model sub woofer. In all fairness to pioneer support, they did finally agree to a full refund if I so desired. Truth of the matter is, this is a great sounding woofer (if you don't mind a hum in quiet times}. One thing I did to make it better was to position on a side wall so that the port on front was not facing me. This helped a lot. It still hums but it doesn't bother me now. Also worth noting is that it runs pretty warm to the touch, even in standby mode. Another reason I kept it was that I bought this as a package with a center and four surounds. I would rate it four stars if it had no hum. Would still take off one star for the heat the amp makes in standby.
